Good News Story - Sacred Heart School/École Sacré Coeur

Expired

December was a joyful and faith-filled month at Sacred Heart/Sacré Coeur as students, staff, and families came together to celebrate Advent, serve others, and grow in their faith.

We began the season by celebrating the Feast of St. Nicholas with a school Mass on December 6, beautifully hosted by our Grade 6 students. Following Mass, our school community gathered for our much-anticipated annual Christmas Dinner. This cherished tradition would not be possible without the generosity and dedication of our Catholic School Community Council, who organize and serve the meal each year. Their service embodies the spirit of community and hospitality, and this event continues to be one that students and staff look forward to each December.

Faith formation was at the heart of our Advent journey. Our Grade 2 students celebrated the Sacrament of First Reconciliation, marking an important milestone in their faith lives. At the same time, the remainder of the school had the opportunity to participate in Reconciliation with Father Thuy and visiting priests. This sacred experience allowed students to reflect, pray, and reconnect with their faith, reinforcing the importance of forgiveness and God’s mercy during the Advent season.

Our school community also demonstrated the true meaning of almsgiving through several acts of generosity. Students and staff supported the Angel Tree initiative by “Packing the Cruiser” with donated toys and held fundraisers to purchase two Christmas hampers for local families in need. In addition, students generously donated new pajamas to support the Kinsmen and Kinettes. These efforts reflected our commitment to serving others and living out Christ’s call to love our neighbours.

Families were welcomed into the school for a special evening of Polar Express activities, culminating in a movie night. It was a wonderful opportunity for families to gather, connect, and share in the excitement of the season. Seeing students joyfully engage in activities alongside their families outside of school hours was a meaningful reminder of the strong partnership between home, school, and faith community.

We concluded the year by coming together as a school community for a Caroling Concert on the final day before Christmas break. Parents, students, and staff joined voices in song, sharing carols, hot chocolate, and cookies as we joyfully headed into the holiday season. It was a fitting and joyful way to end 2025—united in faith, gratitude, and community.
